“Eco Zone Durmitor” Project Presented
Durmitor is a region which, due to its nature concentrated on tourism and agriculture, has been protected from the harmful influences of modern civilization. We possess the most attractive and promising territory in Montenegro which will, through this project, become even more significant. In terms of the territory, the zone is envisaged even beyond the National Park boundaries, since the whole region complies with the strictest ecological standards, according to all criteria. All of the qualities that have almost disappeared in the developed countries by a quick, uncontrolled industrialization, that the whole world is longing for, still exists on Durmitor. For all the previously mentioned, it is our opinion that the whole region of Durmitor should be included into this project since it completely justifies its name “Eco Zone Durmitor”.
An urgent initiation of such a project and passing of a strategy for its realization, has been encouraged by the fact that up to now the enormous potentials of the region have not been used enough as well as that an enormous pressure was recently placed for making physical changes, which in case of the river Tara was particularly alarming.
Up to now, the tourism has been showing and to some extent justifying its capabilities. Now, facing unavoidable privatization, the tourism can be additionally completed by being based on the eco tourism and production of the organically healthy food. Such an offer and the expansion of it into the village region that could provide services and accommodation, will help for the whole chain to become sustainable and prosperous. The current active holidays presume the exciting travels and sightseeing, daily excursions with various activities, mountaineering, mountain bikes excursions, walking tours, rafting in the Tara, descending and swimming in the canyons of Nevidio and Tara, rowing in a kayak, alpinism, cave exploring, bailing out, flying with paraglider and kite, skiing and snowboarding in the wild, riding in the wild, diving, sailing and fishing in the rivers and lakes.
In order to carry out all the mentioned goals, it is necessary to provide a cooperation and support of numerous relevant entities: on a level of local community – of the municipal structures, schools, non-governmental ecological organizations, interested enterprises and individuals, and on a state level - of the republic ministries in charge and the Institute for Protection of Nature of Montenegro. In addition, the contacts should be established with relevant international organizations and institutions, significant for realization of the Project’s aims.
In the course of realization of the project, one of the priorities is a provision of a support, as wide as possible, of a local community. The basic idea of a project is to transfer a knowledge, ideas and information as well as to enable a local community for an independent realization of practical results of every single part of the project. That means to direct a development of the region towards the usage of ecological potentials, to the opening of new fields of activities that would significantly increase a number of new, specialized job positions and reorientation of the ones already existing. In order not to disrupt a harmony with the whole region, the laws should be passed immediately, which would serve as a basis for realization of the whole project and which will prevent any construction works that do not comply with the planned ones. In a meantime, the regional plan should be made, having the architectural solutions that would use as their basis the traditional Durmitor house and the mountainous constructing style.
Such solutions will stimulate a comeback of the old crafts, ethno villages, home-made production and a small-scale industry that can provide, in no time, the visible economic results. If such a concept for development of this part of Montenegro is adopted, every product could have engraved a sign “Eco Zone Durmitor”, as a kind of a quality sign. Such products are in demand on the world market and with the application of a wise marketing they would soon find their customers. This would certainly contribute to the establishment of the Durmitor brand products. In addition, very soon, certain special products may be established, such as Durmitor teas or vegetable preserves. The situation we are facing now when there are no teas from these regions in the Durmitor’s catering objects, is almost humiliating.
The most important part within the whole project is a modern marketing approach and a presentation that would show a quality and elements of the offer in the right light.
The logo “Eco Zone Durmitor” should be adopted by all the interested factors from this region, in the same way as it should be supported by the whole tourist Montenegro. In addition to this joint approach, Durmitor should also appear individually in terms of marketing, on the markets that are particularly interested in these regions and which have traditionally been our guests (Dubrovnik, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Prague). However, we do not wish this project to become our exclusive right since it is our opinion that no one can carry it out completely alone. This is a project that should be realized by joint efforts, and only then it may be successful.
The examples of already popular restaurants in Zabljak, that had completely re-oriented their offer to the national cuisine, clearly confirm the importance of this aspect, introduced by the Ministry of Tourism, within the campaign “Dobro vam ucinjelo” (Let it be good for you). This project is rather complex and extensive, but there is no time to go into details at the moment. Today we will concentrate just on the organic agriculture.
The “Most” is planning the following:
1. To organize an Internet presentation that will introduce the ecological offer of this region (food, herbal plants)
2. To organize a seminar on Durmitor’s organic agriculture
3. To provide, in cooperation with the departmental ministries, an international certificate for the territory of the “Eco Zone Durmitor”.
4. To provide a complete advertising material – post cards, posters, T-shirts with the logo “Eco Zone Durmitor”, having in mind that we have in our possession the most extensive base of the supreme photographs of Durmitor and Tara
5. To establish a cooperation with the Ministry for Tourism in order to strengthen the tourist valorization of this region through these projects.
6. To organize and animate more nongoverment organizations from Montenegro and establish coalition
